The technique was learnt
Here.
9. Zoom in on the tile 4 times.

Choose your Eraser Tool set to Square, Size 5 and erase around one of the plaid
squares in that image.

11. Clean up the square more by zooming in, with
your eraser tool set to size 1, remove the pixels around the edges to get your
plaid 'square' out from the rest of the image...
12. Go to Edit, Copy, Paste
as new image.

13. Go to Effects, Geometric effects, Ripple with these settings
Amplitude
: 10
Wavelength: 1
H & V : 50
14. *Important*: This is the
finished image as a result of doing this tutorial. Save the rippled tile as either
a .tub or .psp file to retain it's transparency. You can manipulate it later to
get different effects. (I.e. colorizing, adding a drop down shadow or inner bevel)

Let's
play with our ripple tile:
15. Open a new image 400 x 400
16. Choose a color (I used #4E5071) from your rippled tile and flood fill your
image with it.
17. Add a new layer and flood fill with your ripple image
tile you saved as either a .tub or .psp file

18. Let's add an inner bevel to brighten up our ripple a bit using the below settings.
19. You may even want to add a texture to your background layer.
20. Merge
- All Flatten

Make'n the tile to use on a webpage:
21. Once you are happy with your 400 x 400 play image, double click your selection
tool and enter these below values.
22. Click ok, go to Selections - Convert
to Seamless pattern.

This
is the final ripple background tile that I've come up with. There are an endless
awray of possibilities with colors, ripple settings and textures. Play around
untill you've found something you like. Below are other examples using the .tub/.psp
ripple file and the colorizing tool. Happy psp'n.
